Conceptual aerial acrobatic shoot with Rusty Shackelford and Katz Pajamaz
December 19. 2011
A couple of years ago, I 'rescued' this lovely wooden bed headboard and footboard from the curb, where they'd been set out by a neighbor for trash pickup. Since then, I'd had the internal vision of an aerial shoot using the suspended bed frame - and no mattress.
When Rusty mentioned that he and Kat would love to do some aerial work together, it seemed that the time had arrived to bring my 'aerial bad' concept to life. Rusty and Kat were enthusiastic about the idea, and the plan for this shoot was born.
We communicated and planned extensively before the day of the shoot, but on the day itself, time was fairly limited. In a period of just a few hours - very short for a project with some of the logistical and technical issues involved - we got the studio set up, and successfully pulled off several variations on our theme.
This is strenuous, challenging acrobatic work under any circumstances, and Kat performed these aerial maneuvers while feeling extremely ill. A truly heroic level of determination and commitment to the shoot.
Huge thanks to both Rusty and Kat for (in addition to their modeling!) helping with the heavy lifting needed for setup, to Kat for performing amazing aerial stunts while ill, and to Mia and Yana for very helpful assistance with set and spotting during some of the final shots.
