Palm, Act II
Photo shoot with Ivan Bohman
Since shooting the original Heart of Palm set in 2010, I've fully intended to make further use of the dried palm frond as a prop in the hands of other models. I've collected a couple more of the fronds along the way, and over the time I've had them set aside in my prop room, they've continued to dry, and to change in color, texture, and character.
For Ivan's shoot, we created a small set that portrayed a moody and ambiguous location/environment. Then we explored some ideas based upon the 'colored shadows' experimentation that I'd just begun with Rusty Shackelford a couple of days previous.
The palm fronds continue to interest me as interactive, compositional, and textural pieces, and I am sure I will bring them out yet again in due time.
