Reflections Portraits
An ongoing experimental portrait project beginning in March 2011, exploring portraits shot 'indirectly' via reflections in glass.
This project was inspired by a recent photo walk I took through the nearby Houghton Park, where I found some really interesting effects shooting reflections of trees and structures in the windows of some of the buildings on the grounds. The reflections bend, warp, move in and out of focus, and sometimes even combine in single-exposure superimpositions with the interior features of the buildings to create some eye-fooling illusions. I decided I'd like to explore these effects further while also incorporating human models into the images.
There's a different feeling and challenge (compared to shooting in the studio) to 'finding' an interesting image in the elements pre-existing in a location and setting. Along the studio's block there are quite a few storefronts with large glass windows, and I want to take advantage of the neighborhood color and character in a variety of these spots up and down the street, as well as returning to the park, for shoot locations. Eventually, I plan to use mounted glass panels to recreate some similar effects in the studio, under controlled conditions.
