It amazes me how something insubstantial seeming as fluffy clouds can cast such dense shadows upon the earth below.

Tones worked in post-production to accentuate the contrast between the red rocky terrain in the top half of the frame, and the green vegetation in the bottom.

Coastline
Date: 08/23/2010
In 2009, I shot some semi-abstract photos of architecture and installation art at Studio 1636 in Hollywood.
A sculptural wall of rock and glass outside the front door was reminiscent of a stretch of "Coastline" much like this in-flight view.

C-41
Date: 08/22/2010
I landed in Denver at the gate next to this one, but on my return flight to LA actually flew out of gate C-41.
Of course, this is a digital image, but that just means I find all the more humor.

Ghost Tunnel
Date: 08/23/2010
Shot through the window of the train that leads between the concourses and terminal, on the way to baggage claim.
The seat at the back of the car was occupied by a woman and her two little daughters who plastered themselves up against the window, watching as we progressed through the tunnel.
Between the train in motion and my on-camera flash reflecting in the window, I got some interesting effects.
Gold Mine

Shot through the window of the train that leads between the concourses and terminal, on the way to baggage claim.
In this case, handheld long exposure with the train in motion, lit only by the various lights in the train and tunnel, created the effect.
Do You Copy?

Although I'd packed the camera away for exiting the plane, the sight of airport neon reflected in one of a series of metal columns caught the attention of my very sleep-deprived mind.
This is pure abstraction, for the interest in the shapeless colors reflected into the curved surface of the metal, shot from up close to remove all sense of context.
Orange Pit

External structures of the building, and seeing down into the parking level below.

External structures of the airport building, with a view down into the parking level below.
Shot through the window of one of the vestibule areas leading from baggage claim out to the parking lots.
This is shot with a flash, the hot white spot reflecting in the middle. The white bar is a metal band that bisects the section of glass, like a narrow sill of sorts.

Fountains
Date: 08/22/2010
This was actually shot on Thursday Aug 19, waiting for my return flight to LA.
I was going back and forth between shooting with and without my on-camera flash, and had more flash power than I expected when I took this shot of three shiny drinking fountains mounted on a metal wall outside a restroom.
It turned out to be a happy accident, as I really like the contrasts and the nature of the overexposure that was created.
