Engine Room - Long Exposure
Date: 08/23/2010
Traffic was clear and I arrived early at the venue. I played with a few experimental long exposure shots in the time before the rest of the shooting crew arrived for setup.
This is a view of the main studio room and the "Engine" crane and screen, shot from the 2nd floor overlook. The camera lens is gradually zoomed in over the exposure time to create the effect.

Traffic was clear and I arrived early at the venue. I played with a few experimental long exposure shots in the time before the rest of the shooting crew arrived for setup.
This is the screen of the "Engine," shot from the 2nd floor overlook down into the main studio space, while a film is playing. The camera is being rotated from horizontal to vertical during the exposure, giving a completely abstract result.

The sculptural crane base of "The Engine."
Ceiling Art
Date: 08/23/2010
The back corners of the studio's main room held abstract installation art composed of these fabric billows with various "accents" like the little sandbags on the wall.
Skull Door
Date: 08/23/2010
Screened "skull" design on the front door of the venue. Shot from inside, lit by the street lights and passing cars.
Yellow Wall
Date: 08/23/2010
The back patio wall, continuing the murals found inside the venue.
Rock Wall 1
Date: 08/23/2010
The sculpted outer wall of the front of the building, with backlit glass insets.
This area is minimally lit with a couple of small floodlights, and the colored lights behind the glass.
To the eye, it appears a uniform grey-brown concrete color.
The light is very "yellow" to the camera, yielding this orange/gold effect.
I shot upward and across a section of it to maximize texture detail, with the result resembling a cave or underground canyon structure.

Coastline 2
Date: 08/23/2010
The sculpted outer wall of the front of the building, with backlit glass insets.
This area is minimally lit with a couple of small floodlights, and the colored lights behind the glass.
To the eye, it appears a uniform grey-brown concrete color.
Adding a camera flash, much more color becomes visible.
I have no idea if the artist intended this effect or not, but fully lit like this, the piece resembles a contour map or aerial view of coastal terrain.
Here, I'm shooting upward and across a section of it to maximize texture detail.

Sid Lynch, granddaughter of filmmaker David Lynch.
She's quite a talented young photographer herself, with several pieces of her work included in the exhibitions hung in the Studio 1636 Gallery.
Frenzy
Date: 08/23/2010
A friend of mine, model Frenzy, wore this cool handmade shirt of tattered webbing. While crowded into a tight space waiting for the fashion show to begin, I was able to angle a shot so that he blocked a very bright light coming from behind him, and get this semi-abstract take on his outfit.
