TV Pin-up
Pin-up shoot with burlesque performer and model BJ Jones
March 21, 2011
In early March 2011, I found a huge old tv entertainment center about a block away from the studio, left out on the curbside for trash pickup. The piece was a little beat up, but I saw instant potential for it as a photo shoot prop. I wanted it immediately, and at the same time, with a sinking heart, doubted very much I'd be able to physically move the massive and undoubtedly weighty piece of furniture back to the studio. I couldn't give up without trying though, and while it wasn't easy, I wanted to cheer when I found I could manage to slowly push and drag it along the sidewalk. It took some challenging maneuvers through the dips of driveways, and my block had never felt so long before I finally wrestled my prize back to the studio's covered patio, where it resided for a few days before I was able to clear some storage space and bring it inside its new home.
I plan to shoot a figure nude series with various models posing in, on and around the platform and cabinet, but meanwhile, when BJ and I started talking about shooting together, it occurred to me that between her fantastic burlesque persona and this great set piece, we had the makings of an awesome pin-up shoot.
BJ completely rocked this concept, thoroughly embodying the 'in, on, and around' I had in mind, all in a fine style. This is the closest to a traditional pin-up shoot I've ever done, and the first of what I hope will be a series of shoots featuring different models posing as the 'home entertaininment.'
Again, a huge thanks to BJ for her patience and adventurous spirit in making this shoot work!
