Oscar Party Sunset

Shot on my point-and-shoot camera that I had at the party to take candids, so image quality is moderate on some of these.

A couple of musician friends of mine have a gorgeous house right on the beach in Hermosa, where a great many parties and rooftop jam sessions take place, including this one for the Oscar telecast.

As a few people were jamming on the roof near sunset, the light on the houses and over the ocean inspired me to start shooting. I took shot after shot, exploring angles and exposure settings, to catch the colors, light, and lens flares in as many ways as I could as the sun descended. Many of these have just tiny adjustments to contrast and saturation, but I worked with a few of them a little more in post processing to bring out the range of tones. Some of them have such a beautiful soft, dreamlike quality, while others are vivid and radiant.
