Black Dog on Pink Stucco

Canon Powershot G7
Dog belonging to my next-door neighbors. I'm not fond of these neighbors, due to some acts of vandalism, enough said about that. But the dog is cool, even though he barks all the time, probably due to terrible boredom from being cooped up in their tiny apartment and balcony.
I'd had this silhouette shot in mind for a while after seeing him like this at night a few times, "standing" with paws up on the balcony rail (and frequently barking at whatever he sees...).

Shot on my point-and-shoot, so image quality is moderate.
Watching a couple of my musician friends play at one of their gigs, and got this shot of another friend of ours taking some video of them on her phone. Had a little fun with post-processing.

Some friends of mine were playing a show at District 13 in Hollywood. While hanging out on the patio, I saw this neon sign through the window of the bar next door, and had to take a photo. Later, another friend told me that Goose Island is a very tasty IPA. I'll have to try it sometime, but it gets my vote on behalf of the logo if nothing else!

Out for a songwriters' roundtable event where a friend was performing, and the candles were throwing these patterns through the cut-glass holders. Almost like a little disco ball!

Ferris Wheel Perspective
Date: 09/23/2007
35mm film scan - Ilford Delta 3200, shot @ 800.
Taken in in late May, 2007, from the 1st roll of film I shot with my Canon 1-NRS 35mm camera when I got it.
The carnival was in town at the park up the street from the studio. There's just something intriguing to me about the
mechanical carnival rides amidst the grass and trees. They look to me like alien spaceships landed!
Last time I took photos of the carnival was on my cell phone, before I had any professional camera of my own. So when
I got the film camera, it was the perfect opportunity to get some better shots. I ended up taking about half a roll of this
ferris wheel, at the front of the park along a row of palm trees. The last couple of shots I took, I ignored the trees and
focused on the perspective of the spokes of the wheel radiating out from the center.

Norm's Palm Trees
Date: 01/05/2009
New Year's Day, 2009.
My friends Steven Perry and Katerina Mitchell from deviantART were in town, and we went to breakfast at Norm's Restaurant.
Being 11am on Jan. 1, there was a bit of a wait for seating. While we stood outside talking, I saw this view of the row of palm trees
down the side of the building, and snapped this shot.
Wing Lights I
Date: 12/04/2011
Aloft en route from LAX to Denver
Nov 22, 2011
While we were on the runway awaiting takeoff, I'd noticed the lit-up wingtip and its watery reflection along the flat of the wing. I had to wait till we were in the air and given the 'ok' to use portable electronic devices before I could pull out my camera and take the photo I wanted, and I'm glad I did so right away, as the wing lights were only left on for the very first several minutes we were in the air.

I like window seats. I like taking photos out airplane windows. On this flight, seated directly over the wing, I had a great view of the jet engine.

35mm film scan - Ilford Delta 3200, shot @ 800.
September 13, 2007, walking back from the LACDA gallery to the lot where I had parked my car, a couple of blocks away.
It was nice that I had my cameras with me, because when I saw and liked the arch on this building, I got to take it home
with me!
Pentagram Alight in Red
Date: 01/24/2008
6x7 film scan - Kodak Portra VC 160, cropped to 6x9 aspect ratio
wide angle by candlelight only, f/4.5, 2.5 second exposure
January 10, 2008 - in the early morning hours
This is Gremlin's pentagram in the back parking lot of the studio. Frenzy (featured in the art model gallery on this site)
brought the red candles over for a shoot we were planning. He lit them on the pentagram as a test of the color and light,
and I took a few shots of the scene in long exposure, just by the light of the candles. The effect came out really nice,
showing the circular halo thrown by each candle when no other light obstructs the shadows.
I always think of Gremlin when there are candles lit on the pentagram. The night he and I finished laying out and painting
the outline of it, we lit candles at the 5 points and stood outside watching the light for a while together. Then the next time
it was lit was at his memorial. The shoot we were planning didn't have anything to do with Gremlin's memorial, but the
candles on the pentagram still make me think of him, and like many other reminders, always will.
